Jinrakuji Temple is said to have been founded by Hata no Kawakatsu in 647. The principal image of worship, the Senju Kannon Statue, is believed to have originally been a gift from the King of Kudara (an ancient Korean kingdom) to Shotoku Taishi which was later granted to Kawakatsu. However, the current statue was created in the Heian period and the flanking images are said to be those of Hata no Kawakatsu and Shotoku Taishi. The Ajiike Pond in the front of the main temple building is said to have been created by Kobo Daishi. According to legend, after Daishi gave a clamorous frog in the pond a scolding here, the frog stopped croaking.
