Overview

Kagi no Jamaki is an event associated with Boy's Day celebrations to pray for huge harvest. A large "snake" is made from new rice straws at Yasaka Shrine in Kagi. While some of the boys carry the snake's head (which weights close to 300 kilograms) and walk, the others pull back on the snake's body hindering the head from proceeding. The final destination is a large tree located in "Hattan" in front of Kita Middle School, where the snake's head is placed on the base of tree and the body is hung from the branches.
