Overview

Korei Shrine is a shrine dedicated to Emperor Korei. Until the Meiji period, it was located on the grounds of Horakuji Temple. The 3rd prince of Emperor Korei, Kibitsuhiko no Mikoto, was one of the "Shido Shoguns" (4 shoguns who ruled different parts of Japan at the time) and is said to be the model of the children's tale "Momotaro."
